How to replace the Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End on Chevrolet Colorado?

Replacement of the Rack And Pinion outer Tie Rod End starts by lifting the vehicle while providing it with adequate support. Start by removing the tire and wheel and following with the removal of the outer tie rod retaining nut which you should dispose. A wedge must be driven between the joint and attached part for safety when avoiding joint disconnect to stop seal damage. Detach the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle by using the component named steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B). The technician should loosen the jam nut to free the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod and should discard the jam nut. Before putting the new jam nut on the outer tie rod you should first clean the Steering Knuckle taper and apply suitable chassis lubricant to the inner tie rod threads. The rod assembly should be connected from the inner tie rod to the Steering Knuckle and the outer tie rod. After placing the new outer tie rod retaining nut in position, apply torque to 45 n.m (33 lb ft) with 95 degrees additional angular torque and also torque the outer Tie Rod End jam nut to 70 n.m (52 lb ft). After putting back the tire and wheel you must lower the vehicle for adjusting front toe measurements.

Service and repair of the Tie Rod End begins by dismantling the hexagon torque prevailing nut attached to the outer tie rod stud and the tie rod seal from the outer tie rod assembly. The universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-01) should be used to extract the outer tie rod assembly from the Steering Knuckle after the hexagon jam nut on the inner tie rod assembly had been loosened. The next step will involve unconnecting the outer tie rod assembly from its position on the inner tie rod assembly. Begin assembly by attaching the outer tie rod assembly to the inner tie rod but refrain from tightening the hexagon jam nut and afterward fixing the outer tie rod assembly to the Steering Knuckle. The tie rod seal should be installed onto the outer tie rod assembly before tightening the hexagon torque prevailing nut on the outer tie rod stud . Secure the hexagon torque prevailing nut to 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.) while also checking that the Rack and Pinion Boot maintains a smooth shape during the toe adjustment process. The inner tie rod adjustment process includes using manufacturer recommendations to set toe specifications before securing the hexagon jam nut against the outer tie rod to 68 nm (50 ft. Lbs.).
