The first procedure when replacing a rack and pinion inner Tie Rod (Quiet Valve) involves removing the Rack and Pinion Boot off the vehicle. Place the gear inside a vise but maintain its current adjustment position to shield both the pinion and steering gear from damage when you detach the inner Tie Rod. After removing the shock dampener from the inner Tie Rod assembly position it again on the rack. Install a pipe wrench on the rack by the inner Tie Rod housing and a wrench on its flats to rotate it counterwise until it disconnects from the rack .
