Before uninstalling the rack and pinion inner tie rod from the vehicle's system (Quiet Valve) start by removing the rack and pinion boot then place the gear in a vise maintaining the steering gear preload adjustment without causing damage. Ready the rack by attaching the shock dampener from the inner tie rod assembly and sliding it onto the rack. Begin by positioning a pipe wrench on the rack adjacent to the inner tie rod housing and applying a wrench to the flats of the inner tie rod housing. Rotate the components counterclockwise until separation occurs from the rack. First remove and place the shock dampener back onto the rack before moving on. Apply a pipe wrench to the rack and a wrench on the inner tie rod housing flats to turn counterclockwise until separation occurs between the rack and the inner tie rod. Before assembly when working with female rack and male inner tie rod it's imperative to clean the threads on both pieces of old loctite(r). Male rack and female inner tie rod configurations do not require loctite(r) application. When assembling insert the shock dampener so that it moves forward onto the rack. Before application of loctite(r) 262 or equivalent solution for female rack and male inner tie rod thread feed. Use a pipe wrench on the rack next to the inner tie rod housing while using a torque wrench with j 34028 on the flats of the inner tie rod housing to tighten the assembly to 100 nm (74 ft. lbs. After cleaning rack threads the shock dampener slides forward onto the rack and we apply loctite(r) 262 or equivalent thread locker if using female rack and male inner tie rod configuration. Begin by tightening the inner tie rod to 100 nm (74 ft. lbs.) using this sequence: use a pipe wrench on the rack next to the inner tie rod housing and a torque wrench with j 34028 on the flats of the inner tie rod housing. The inner tie rod assembly should be placed into a vise while performing stake procedures on both female inner tie rod assembly housing sides when the system features a male rack type configuration together with female inner tie rod. Use a 0.25 mm gage to check the tightness of both stakes between the rack and the inner tie rod housing. To finish the installation process we should fit the shock dampener across the inner tie rod housing so it reaches the inner housing's lowest point before rerouting the rack and pinion boot.
