How to replace the Shift Cable for the Automatic Transmission Range Selector on Chevrolet Colorado?

The fixation of a new Shift Cable should begin by placing the vehicle in park position then elevating and securing the vehicle. Doing not pull on the boot section of the cable should be avoided. You must disconnect the Shift Cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud by using a flat bladed tool to split the Shift Cable end from the range selector lever. Reposition the driver's side carpet after securing the Shift Cable end onto the ball stud of the lever with a check below the pedal to confirm complete motion. The vehicle needs to be raised for installation of the left hinge pillar trim panel followed by Shift Cable bracket connection and Shift Cable retainer attachment. Then release the tangs to extract the cable while preventing unnecessary range selector cable twisting or bending. Use this step to remove the support-based range selector cable as well as the cable grommet from the floor panel. Support the vehicle while rising it and detach the cable's clips from the reinforcement panel and the range selector lever cable heat shield bolts before removing the heat shield. The vehicle should have its transmission manual shaft positioned to mechanical park as the installer disconnects the range select lever cable from the range select lever before removing the cable retainer and cable from the cable bracket. Attach the transmission range selector cable to the vehicle while maintaining the transmission manual shaft lever in mechanical park before installing the range selector lever cable to the cable bracket and securing it with the retainer. Fasten the heat shield over the transmission with bolts and tighten them to 17 nm (13 lb ft). Do the vehicle drop and position the clips at the cable ends on the floor panel reinforcement when also keeping the Steering Column shift lever in park. The floor panel receives the cable grommet while the range selector cable becomes attached to its support before connecting to the Steering Column bracket until tangs fully hook in. The final step consists of attaching the cable end to the Steering Column ball stud followed by retaining the cable with its metal clip. After that install the carpet and insulation before replacing the body hinge pillar trim panel, driver seat, and instrument panel knee bolster. Perform a transmission shift test before adjusting the cable unless all gears fail to activate.
