How to Replace the Automatic Transmission Filter and Fluid on Chevrolet Colorado?

The first step to perform automatic transmission fluid replacement involves raising the vehicle and establishing support underneath it. A flat-bladed tool should be used to disconnect the range selector cable from the transmission range selector lever ball stud at its ending point on the lever. Once the end is pried away, remove bolts securing the transmission range selector cable bracket to the transmission. Move the bracket to increase clearance before dropping the pan while placing the suitable receptacle under the transmission Oil Pan. Start by removing all front and side Oil Pan bolts followed by a loose rotation of the rear bolts by 4 turns before gently striking the Oil Pan with a rubber mallet to allow fluid to drain into the collecting container. Remove all present Oil Pan bolts before removing the Oil Pan along with its gasket. Check if the filter needs pliers to be removed before discarding it with the rest of the materials. Your examination should include looking at the fluid's color while you evaluate the filter for both bushing wear and clutch material as well as steel particles. Use solvent to clean transmission case as well as Oil Pan gasket surfaces until you remove all remaining old gasket material. Allow these surfaces to air dry naturally before proceeding. Using clean automatic transmission fluid to coat the new filter seal leads to its successful installation into the transmission case by tapping it with an appropriate socket. Place the new filter first; after that put the new Oil Pan using its gasket and apply equal and alternating torque pressure of 16 n.m (12 lb ft) on all transmission case bolts. Adjust the automatic transmission range selector cable before lowering the vehicle to properly fill it with dexron(R) iii transmission fluid at the cold fluid mark during first filling. Check for any leaks near the Oil Pan gasket during the final step.

How to replace the Automatic Transmission Filter on Chevrolet S10?

A vehicle service technician should begin automatic transmission fluid/filter replacement by lifting and stabilizing the vehicle then placing a drain pan positioned beneath the transmission oil pan. The range selector cable bracket needs to be positioned aside through bolt removal while the technician removes the transmission oil pan Drain Plug and lowers the pan. Remove bolts installed at the oil pan front and sides but leave the rear bolts partially tight by turning them 4 times. You should use a rubber mallet to make gentle strikes on the oil pan which will create fluid drainage before you remove the remaining bolts and take out the oil pan together with its gasket. A proper grip of the filter allows you to pull it down with twisting motion to remove it before using pliers to get rid of the stubborn filter seal. The transmission case along with the Oil Pan Gasket surfaces require cleaning with solvent and their air drying process must complete removal of old gasket material. Apply automatic transmission fluid to the new filter seal before inserting it into the transmission housing through the use of a proper-sized socket for installation. Mount the new filter onto position before installing the oil pan assembly with its new gasket. Sealed tightly every other bolt on the oil pan to transmission case surface at 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). The range selector cable bracket must be reinstated and its bolts should be tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). A small amount of gm p/n 12346004 sealant should be applied to the Drain Plug threads on the oil pan before tightening it to 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.). Add dexron (R) iii transmission fluid into the system to reach proper level when the vehicle is lowered down but check the cold fluid measurement during the first addition while also checking for any oil leaks from the new Oil Pan Gasket.
