- Q: How to replace the automatic transmission shift cable on Chevrolet Trailblazer?A:The first step for replacing the automatic transmission range selector cable requires placing the vehicle in park position then lifting the transmission. Cable end of the range selector must be disconnected from the transmission range selector lever ball stud before removing the retainer from the range selector cable. First detach the range selector cable from the bracket through its retainer on the floor panel and then do the same for 4wd vehicles by removing the retainers on the Transfer Case. Snaking the cable grommet through the floor panel while the vehicle is lowered. Start by removing the console unit followed by the front driver mat and carpet. Disconnect the range selector cable end at the floor control ball stud before taking out the cable from the floor shift control assembly. Slip off the tape and grommet from the Shift Cable on the floor panel while taking out the range selector cable that runs inside the vehicle. Installation requires threading the cable downward through the floor panel after inserting the grommet before connecting the floor shift control assembly with the range selector cable and the floor control ball stud with the end of the cable. Position the driver-side front mat before installing the carpet and afterward replace the console. The installation requires raising the vehicle a second time so the cable can be attached to the floor panel retainers or to the Transfer Case retainers for 4wd models. The range selector cable will attach through its bracket after which the retainer must secure to the cable. The last step includes connecting the end of the range selector cable to the transmission range selector lever ball stud while making necessary adjustments on the range selector cable before lowering the vehicle for proper inspection.
