How to replace the pinion bearing on an 8.6 Inch Axle on Chevrolet Colorado?

When replacing the Pinion Bearing of an 8.6 inch axle begin by elevating and supporting the vehicle. Work on the axle by first removing the Differential assembly together with the pinion gear. The dt 49275 - Pinion Bearing remover together with the j 22912-b - bearing remover enable the Pinion Bearing and spacer's removal by placing a brass drift in the axle housing while moving the drift forward and backward to achieve uniform cup extraction. The procedure includes the removal of both outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups through puncturing them with a hammer and brass drift. The installation of the outer bearing cup starts with the j 28677 - needle bearing installer alongside the j 8092 - universal driver handle and concludes with the dt 49032 - Pinion Bearing cup installer for the inner cup. Place the selective pinion spacer with its proper thickness onto the pinion gear. Install the Pinion Bearing with its spacer using the j 22828 - input shaft gear installer while hammering and maintaining adequate lubrication by applying axle lubricant. The axle housing receives the pinion outer bearing before the pinion gear installation and completion with the new pinion seal. The installation process requires placing back the Differential components and lubricating the axle properly ahead of returning the support system and decreasing the vehicle height.

How to replace the drive pinion bearings on Chevrolet S10?

First raise the vehicle before removing the tire units along with the wheels and calipers and rotors need to be removed. Take out the drive pinion from the axle after removing the Differential assembly together with axle shafts. When working with 7.6 inch axles the split plate bearing puller (J22912-01) will help press the bearing off the pinion. Because of their different axle lengths, Pinion Bearing remover (J45871) needs to be placed around the Pinion Bearing while split plate bearing puller (J22912-01) must be positioned upside down around the Pinion Bearing remover before you press off the bearing combination of both tools. Apply a hammer and brass drift to remove the shim and the outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups from the axle housing. When installing the outer Pinion Bearing cup on 7.6 inch axles use the outer bearing race installer (J7817) combined with the driver handle (J8092). The rear Pinion Bearing race installer (J8611-01) works with the same driver handle for installing the outer cup on all 8.6 inch axles. Insert the inner Pinion Bearing cup through the use of the rear Pinion Bearing cup installer (J29609) for 7.6 inch axles or the Pinion Bearing cup installer (J45870) for 8.6 inch axles along with the driver handle (J8092). Install the pinion shim between the inner Pinion Bearing and the gear shoulder while using the determined selective thickness. The rear Pinion Bearing race installer (J5590) suffices for 7.6 inch axles whereas the pinion cone and side bearing installer (J24433) serves 8.6 inch axles to press the inner Pinion Bearing until the cone securely seats on the pinion shim. The pinion needs a new collapsible spacer and suitable axle lubrication before the pinion housing receives it. You should begin by adding the outer Pinion Bearing together with the new pinion oil seal and the pinion flange/yoke. Complete the rebuild by adding the Differential parts, brake components, assembling wheels with tires, followed by lubricant addition before performing the vehicle drop.

The procedure includes the removal of both outer and inner Pinion Bearing cups through puncturing them with a hammer and brass drift. The installation of the outer bearing cup starts with the j 28677 - needle bearing installer alongside the j 8092 - universal driver handle and concludes with the dt 49032 - Pinion Bearing cup installer for the inner cup. Place the selective pinion spacer with its proper thickness onto the pinion gear. Install the Pinion Bearing with its spacer using the j 22828 - input shaft gear installer while hammering and maintaining adequate lubrication by applying axle lubricant. When installing the outer Pinion Bearing cup on 7.6 inch axles use the outer bearing race installer (J7817) combined with the driver handle (J8092). The rear Pinion Bearing race installer (J8611-01) works with the same driver handle for installing the outer cup on all 8.6 inch axles. Insert the inner Pinion Bearing cup through the use of the rear Pinion Bearing cup installer (J29609) for 7.6 inch axles or the Pinion Bearing cup installer (J45870) for 8.6 inch axles along with the driver handle (J8092). Install the pinion shim between the inner Pinion Bearing and the gear shoulder while using the determined selective thickness. The rear Pinion Bearing race installer (J5590) suffices for 7.6 inch axles whereas the pinion cone and side bearing installer (J24433) serves 8.6 inch axles to press the inner Pinion Bearing until the cone securely seats on the pinion shim. The pinion needs a new collapsible spacer and suitable axle lubrication before the pinion housing receives it. You should begin by adding the outer Pinion Bearing together with the new pinion oil seal and the pinion flange/yoke. Complete the rebuild by adding the Differential parts, brake components, assembling wheels with tires, followed by lubricant addition before performing the vehicle drop.
