- Q: How to Properly Service and Replace a Camshaft on Chevrolet Colorado?A:Start the Camshaft replacement by taking off the Camshaft cover along with the Camshaft position (CMP) sensor. Rotate the Crankshaft clockwise until the #1 Piston is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. When using the j 44221 Camshaft holding tool at the Camshaft back you must discard the intake and exhaust Camshaft sprocket bolts while tightening the bolts on the j 44222 Camshaft sprocket holding tool at the Cylinder Head front section and properly adjusting the horizontal bolt screw in the exhaust Camshaft phaser actuator sprocket to uphold Timing Chain tension. Use the j 44222 to pull the Camshaft Timing Chain as well as sprockets out of the camshafts. First loosen the Camshaft cap bolts to remove all valve spring pressure before extracting the Camshaft caps and the j 44221. The Cylinder Head needs to have both camshafts removed from it. Complete installation by removing the j 44221 then placing the cmp sensor and reattaching the Camshaft cover.
