- Q: What tools are required to service and repair the left valve stem oil seal and valve spring on Cadillac CTS?A:For valve guide seal and valve spring service on the left valve the technician needs en 46106 flywheel holding tool, en 46110 on-vehicle valve spring compressor, en 46116 remover/installer and Spark Plug adapter j39313. Install en 46106 on the Crankshaft first to hold rotation as without it you will need to take apart all Camshaft timing elements. Take out the camshafts and rocker arms then take the Spark Plug from the needed cylinder. Plug the j39313 connector into the cylinder and link it to an air compressor system. Place the en 46110 valve spring compressor tool over the cylinder and twist its adjustment nut. Laura bottle nut from top and valve spring compressor to access valve spring retainer and valve spring. Install the valve guide seal by using the en 46116 equipment. First install the new valve guide seal with the en 46116 tool. Then place the valve spring and retainer on. Put the en 46110 in place over the valve spring and tighten its compressor nut while fitting the valve spring keepers on. Uninstall the en 46110 then detach the j39313 from its air supply. Pull off the j39313. After putting the spark plugs in place, add rocker arms and camshafts then unfasten the en 46106 part to make Crankshaft rotation possible before reinstalling the Starter motor.

Take out spark plugs from the Cylinder Head while the engine stays warm by turning them 1 or 2 times then clearing all dust and debris with compressed air or a brush. Insert the Spark Plug port adapter j 22794 into the Spark Plug opening and add an Air Hose while holding down the valves with airflow. Put the valve spring compressor model j 38606 into action to compress the valve spring before you remove the valve stem keys and gradually open the valve spring tension. Pull off the valve spring and valve spring cap in a single step while extracting the valve guide seal as the first alternative or just the valve guide seal and shim altogether for the following model. Clean the valve seat and shim area then install the valve spring shim for the first design and combined valve guide seal and shim for the second design. The valve guide seal installer (J 42078) is not necessary for the second design. Placing and aligning the valve guide seal correctly on the valve guide helps to protect against oil leakages and damage to other parts. Apply engine oil to valve stem components then put the first design valve guide seal on and use valve guide seal installer j 42078 to press or tap it lightly until the tool reaches the valve spring shim. Check the installed valve guide seal height and observe a 18.1 to 19.1 mm (0.712 to 0.752 inch) space between its top edge and the valve spring shim surface. Insert the valve spring and valve spring cap back into position while using the valve spring compressor (J 38606) to press down the valve spring. Install the valve keys by dipping them in grease before placing them carefully. Relax the valve spring pressure using the compressor tool (J 38606), then take out the device and gently tap the valve stem with plastic head hammer if needed to secure the keys. After removing j 22794 from its port put the hand tool on the Spark Plug and then tighten it to 15 nm while installing Spark Plug Wires across ignition coil and Spark Plug ensuring everything is in place before putting back the valve Rocker Arm.
