How to overhaul the rear brake calipers (15 Series) on GMC Sierra 1500?

The 15 series rear brake caliper needs an overhaul by first replacing all repair kit parts and applying clean brake fluid to rubber parts to help assembly work better. Work on a specialized bench that is free of mineral oil and remove the brake caliper from the vehicle. Use a small wooden stick to protect your hand during pressurized air use rather than placing fingers near the Piston. Aim the compressed air towards the brake hose inlet fitting port to push out the Piston. Uninstall the Piston boot seal brake caliper bleed screw cap and bleed screw one after another. Test the brake caliper bore to spot signs of damage. Replace the brake caliper housing when spotting large brake damage. Worn surfaces at the brake caliper mounting bracket require replacement when corrosion appears. Remove all brake pad residue from guiding surfaces using denatured alcohol and then clean all parts except the kit contents with filtered non-lubricated compressed air. Also blow out the interior of the brake caliper housing and bleeder valve bore. After placing the brake caliper bleed screw thread it to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) then put on the bleed screw cap. Apply brake fluid to the new Piston seal and install it passively to the brake caliper bore groove. Place brake fluid inside Piston and bore before putting brake boot over the Piston. Push the Piston into the bore as you place the boot where the fold faces the Piston opening. Plunge the Piston to its bottom position into the bore while making sure the boot fits both Piston and brake caliper bore groove before reinstalling the brake caliper onto the vehicle.

How to replace the front brake calipers on the 1500 Series on GMC Sierra 1500?

Before starting the front brake caliper replacement on a 1500 series vehicle you must check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir; normal service allows working without removing fluid but excess fluid requires bringing it to the middle mark. Lift the vehicle and take off the tire and wheel components from their position. Apply two large c-clamps directly to the caliper housing and press against the back of its outboard pad until all pistons have been compressed. The workspace near the brake hose must be cleaned before putting a rubber stopper on the open brake pipe end to stop fluid escapes. Detach the brake hose from the caliper by taking out the bolt and discarding its 2 copper gaskets which may stick to their respective parts. Before casting the brake caliper bolts carefully manage to safeguard brake components from harm with the brake pedal lifted out of service. Put the new caliper onto its bracket and fasten it using brake caliper bolts then tighten them to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Place 2 new copper gaskets on top of the brake hose bolt and hose before connecting the hose to the caliper bolt and tightening it to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Reinsert the tire and wheel set and top up brake fluid when needed during brake system draining.

Put the new caliper onto its bracket and fasten it using brake caliper bolts then tighten them to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Place 2 new copper gaskets on top of the brake hose bolt and hose before connecting the hose to the caliper bolt and tightening it to 40 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Reinsert the tire and wheel set and top up brake fluid when needed during brake system draining.
