How to replace the Leaf Spring Shackle on Chevrolet S10?

Starting the spring shackle replacement requires that you lift the vehicle properly and install support. Two door utility owners should first remove the Fuel Tank and the evap canister followed by the spare tire if they need to access the spring shackle. Begin by removing the exhaust hangers at the back and lowering the exhaust system according to need. The rear axle needs proper support. The first step is to remove the frame to spring shackle mounting nut and bolt followed by leaf spring to spring shackle mounting nut and bolt then pull the spring shackle from the vehicle. First secure the spring shackle onto the vehicle frame where it needs to be installed before attaching it to both leaf spring mounting bolt and frame while leaving the bolts untightened. Place the frame onto the spring shackle mounting bolt and nut before avoiding nut and bolt tightening. The axle support should be raised until the metal material of the bumper bracket stands 164 - 176 mm (6.46 - 6.94 inch) away from the axle tube. First tighten the spring shackle mounting nuts to 122 nm (89 ft. Lbs.) before taking the rear axle support out of position. Raise your exhaust system if needed then reconnect rear exhaust hangers before you put back the spare tire followed by the evap canister for 2-door utilities and complete with the Fuel Tank for 2-door utilities before lowering the vehicle.

How to replace the Leaf Spring Shackle on a Chevrolet Colorado?

The process to replace a spring shackle starts by lifting and securing the vehicle followed by supporting the rear axle at its normal height. Begin by unscrewing the shackle nut and bolt that attaches the frame to the vehicle and then remove the same pieces from the shackle assembly on the spring. Once accomplished pull out both pieces from the vehicle. Mount the shackle assembly to the spring after making sure to fasten the shackle nut and bolt onto the spring before torqueing them to 85 nm (63 lb ft). The technician should mount the shackle nut and bolt to the frame before tightening it to 85 nm (63 lb ft). Finally, drop the vehicle while removing the rear axle support. The special tool j 36660-a angle meter should be used throughout this procedure.
