  To serve and fix constant velocity joint boot first, unfasten halfshaft from the vehicle and clamp it horizontally to the vise using a towel wrapped around halfshaft bar. Truncate the large boot retaining clamp from the boot using side cutters and throw away. Use a hand grinder to saw through half shaft bar swage ring and pull the boot away from cross groove joint and wipe the joint assembly of all grease. Assay the ears of race retaining ring grove cross with j 8059 (J 8059) and throw it away. Make sure that the cross groove joint shank is parallel to the half shaft bar in the process of removal, then remove the cross groove joint assembly while maintain the inner race and cage to be straight. Remove the transmission retaining ring with j 8059 (J 8059) and dispose it, the inner boot and swage ring. Clean the join using parts brush and solvent then visual check cross groove joint assembly for damage. For installation, fit up the new swage ring to the new neck of inner boot without swacing, slide the new boot over the halfshaft and bar, making sure that it fits into the boot groove. Mount the inboard half of the halfshaft assembly according to j 41048 (J 41048), then swage the ring according to j 41048 by aligning it with the boot and tighten the bolts alternating until tight. Install the new race retaining ring into the inner race with j 8059 (J 8059), fill the cross groove joint assembly and the inner boot with grease, then install the new large clamp on the inner boot. Dispose of the tool j 8059 (J 8059) to install new transmission retaining ring . Install the assembly on the cross groove joint assembly and push the assembly onto the halftshaft bar fully while seated properly. Make sure no dimple or stretching of the inner boot, apply stroke to the joint of size 271 mm (10.7 in) and crimp the large boot retaining clamp with j 35910 (J 35910) using a torque of 176 n.m (130 lb ft). Last, torque to a gap dimension of 1.9mm (0.075 in), put it all the way through the cross groove joint so it spreads the grease, and return the halfshaft to the vehicle.

  Before replacing the front wheel drive shaft inner joint boot you must remove the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle. Secure the wheel drive shaft bar horizontally with a shop towel inside a bench vise. Use j 35566 or equivalent tool to release the large seal retaining clamp while side cutters safely remove the small seal clamp before separating the inboard seal from the trilobal tripot bushing. Pull the inboard seal away from the trilobal tripot bushing as you move it along the wheel drive shaft bar. Extract the housing from the tripot joint spider and wheel drive shaft bar while you also remove the former retaining ring and install a replacement ring. Mark the spider position on the wheel drive shaft bar before disassembly then apply gentle hammer blows with a brass drift tool to remove the spider from its position. Examine the wheel drive shaft inboard seal together with tripot joint spider assembly and housing including trilobal tripot bushing for damage or signs of wear. Insert the new small seal clamp onto the small end of the inner joint seal before sliding the assembly into the boot groove on the wheel drive shaft bar . Ensure both components fit properly into the groove. Use j 42572 or equivalent tool to crimp the small seal retaining clamp until it creates a 1 mm gap between the tool and the clamp. When the tripot spider is reused position the reference mark to correspond with the wheel drive shaft bar and orientate the beveled edge to face the bar as you reassemble. Position the tripot spider followed by installation of a new retaining ring using j 8059 or an equivalent tool. Secure the wheel drive shaft bar inside the tripot spider and then apply service kit grease into the tripod housing, wheel drive shaft inboard boot, and tripod bearings before installing the trilobal tripot bushing in the housing. Install the larger new seal retaining clamp on the wheel drive shaft inboard seal while sliding the housing over the tripot joint spider assembly before correctly positioning the housing's big wheel drive shaft inboard boot diameter. Position the joint assembly to the correct vehicle dimension then measure a distance of 104.7 mm (4.12 in) between the seal edges. Burp trapped air from the inner joint seal before aligning the wheel drive shaft inboard seal together with the tripot housing and large seal retaining clamp. Fasten the clamp with j 35566 or equivalent to ensure complete tang engagement. Use the inner tripod housing to conduct multiple directional motions which will disperse grease completely through the tripot housing and spider bearings.
