To properly service and repair the front lower Control Arm, first, lift and hold the vehicle, second, uninstall the tire and the wheel, third, uninstall the stabilizer shaft link. Then discard the cotter pin and loosen the honey nut of lower Ball Joint from the pollution, while avoiding over extension of the tri- pot joints that might result in loss of separation of internal components and failure of the joints. Separate the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle using the j43828 Ball Joint separator (J43828), and remove the lower Control Arm of the Steering Knuckle, followed by the lower Ball Joint retaining nut, the lower Control Arm mounting bolts and nuts, and remove the lower Ball Joint from the frame. For laying, fix the lower Control Arm to the frame but do not tighten the nuts of lower Control Arm takes but first; support the weight of the vehicle with the control arms so as to attain the design trim heights before fitting the lower bolts, the Control Arm, and the nuts. Replace the opposite Ball Joint and nut to the Steering Knuckle and tighten the lower Ball Joint scoring nut to 10 nm (88 in. Lbs.), the two flats to a minimum of 55 nm (41 ft. Lbs.) to align the cotter pin slot and the cotter pin. Replace the stabilizer shaft link, tire, and wheel, lower the vehicle and perform trim height check. Lastly, tighten the Control Arm bolts in the following order: rear mounting bolt 158 nm (117 ft. Lbs) and the front mounting nut 158 nm (117 ft. Lbs).

How to replace the lower control arm on Buick Rainier?

Vehicle elevation and tire-wheel removal is the first step before starting to replace the lower Control Arm. Using the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) remove the outer tie rod from the Steering Knuckle by first removing the outer tie rod retaining nut. The stabilizer shaft link lower retaining nut needs to be removed before disconnecting both the stabilizer shaft link and washer from the lower Control Arm. Use a steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) to disconnect the shock module yoke from the lower Control Arm after removing its lower mounting nut. Use the Ball Joint remover (J 43631) to remove the lower Ball Joint from the Steering Knuckle after first discarding its retaining nut. When removing the lower Control Arm to lower Control Arm Bracket mounting nuts, keep track of bolt installation directions for later use but remove the mounting bolts while maintaining contact between the Axle Shaft and transmission (4WD only). First disconnect the lower Control Arm from its bracket while maintaining front bushing spacer position on the front Control Arm Bracket. Position the Control Arm downward and outward at a 90-degree angle to finish the removal. When installing the lower Control Arm start by positioning its Ball Joint stud onto the Steering Knuckle so that the spacer stays properly positioned before you pivot the Control Arm outward and upward to mate it with the lower Control Arm Bracket. When installing the lower Control Arm to its mounting bracket position the bolt through lower Control Arm Bracket while ensuring the arm stays parallel to the bracket during assembly and torque application. Screw in the mounting nuts until they reach torque specifications of 130 n.m (96 lb ft). Mount the shock module yoke to the lower Control Arm before applying the lower mounting nut with 110 n.m (81 lb ft) torque. Use a new lower Ball Joint retaining nut before tightening it to 110 n.m (81 lb ft). The stabilizer shaft link with washer needs to be installed onto the lower Control Arm. Then install the stabilizer shaft link retaining nut applying 155 n.m (114 lb ft) torque to it. Use a new retaining nut to install the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle then tighten it to 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Place the tire and wheel on the vehicle next follow a vehicle check of the front wheel alignment before raising it.
