How to properly dispose of a Shock Absorber on 2007 Chevrolet HHR?

First, be sure to protect the eyes properly from the metal chip flying when you drill off the suspension shock/strut. Clamp the strut in a vise horizontally with the rod in its full extended state. Using a 5mm 3/16in) drill bit, drill a hole in middle of the end cap; be ready for exhalation of gas or a mix of gas and oil as soon as the drill enters the strut, and manage escaping oil using shop towels. When you remove the strut from the vise, position it vertically over a drain pan, with the hole down. Lastly, bring out the rod in and out of the tube in order to drain oil from every part of the strut.
