Place the strut into the vise so it lays horizontally with the rod extended to its maximum. Drill a hole at your end cap's center using a 5 mm (3/16 in) drill bit. Drilling the strut will release gas or oil mixture so technicians should be prepared with shop towels to capture leaking oil while the drill wears through the strut. After removing the strut from the vise position it vertically above a drain pan with the newly drilled hole in the downward direction. Use the rod to maneuver vertically through the tube until all oil drains out of the strut completely.
