When removing the front brake caliper from the vehicle always avoid placing fingers in front of the Piston during compressed air application because it could cause injuries. Place clean cloths inside the caliper housing before applying minimal compressed air through the fluid inlet to gently push out the pistons since excessive force may result in damage. A small wooden or plastic instrument can help you obtain and dispose of the Piston dust boot seals and Piston seals from the caliper bore openings. Clean the caliper Piston bores and seal counterbores, caliper pistons and bleeder valve with denatured alcohol or its alternative solvent after removing the bleeder valve and cap. Avoid using abrasive tools for cleaning. The caliper bores require evaluation after drying with non-lubricated filtered compressed air to check for cracks, scoring, pitting, extensive rust, or corrosion. Examine the caliper assembly for imperfections but replace it immediately if damage is significant or light rust remains after emery paper use. The caliper pistons need replacement if you discover either cracking or damage to the chrome plating. Place delco supreme 11(r) gm p/n 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667) or equivalent dot-3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed container on the new Piston seals before inserting them into the caliper bores. Install the new Piston dust boot seal over the Piston first before placing the caliper pistons into their respective bores appropriate to their boots and folds oriented towards the brake caliper housing openings. Fasten the caliper bleed screw at 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) torque while installing it.finally replace the caliper back onto the vehicle and secure it properly.
