2005 Chevrolet Corvette Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front wheel bearing and hub on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Beginning the replacement process requires a vehicle lift combined with support systems followed by tire and wheel elimination. Begin by disconnecting the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector then move forward with brake caliper and rotor removal. Separate the stabilizer shaft link from the lower Control Arm before you use a jackstand to stabilize the lower Control Arm. Workers should use the j 42188 ball joint separator (J 42188) tool to disconnect the outer tie rod ball stud from the lower ball joint stud from the Steering Knuckle. You should start by taking out the hub and bearing assembly from the Steering Knuckle after removing its Wheel Hub mounting bolts. When installing the hub and bearing assembly into the Steering Knuckle tighten the Wheel Hub mounting bolts to 130 nm (96 ft. Lbs.). First put back the lower Control Arm ball stud followed by removing the jackstand before you can install the steering linkage outer tie rod ball stud. Complete installation by reconnecting the Wheel Speed Sensor electrical connector followed by the stabilizer shaft link and brake rotor with caliper and finish with the tire and wheel assembly. After lowering the car inspect the front wheel toe and apply proper corrections when needed.
