2004 Cadillac CTS Clutch Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2004 Cadillac CTS?
A: In order to change the Clutch Master Cylinder (CTS), start by removing the driver side instrument panel insulator and disconnecting the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector. Then, remove the Clutch Master Cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal pin and remove the clutch fluid reservoir retaining bolt and remove it itself from the fender reinforcement. It is important to note that draining of the coolant or removal of the coolant lines from the surge tank is not important; rather, loosen the coolant surge tank mounting bolts and place the tank where it is out of your way. The rubber cap must be fitted onto the exposed hose fit critical before you disconnect the clutch hydraulic hose to avoid fluid loss and contamination. Ratate the Clutch Master Cylinder clockwise 1/8 turn and get it off the cowl or remove it from there then get the clutch pedal position switch off the master cylinder. For installation, mount the clutch pedal position switch in the new Clutch Master Cylinder while making sure that the clutch fluid reservoir outlet is at the 2:00 position when you insert the master cylinder into the cowl. Move the keys of the master cylinder housing towards the tabs of the clutch pedal bracket and twist it to the counterclockwise direction by about 1/8 turn until the housing is completely seated, with the reservoir hose connection in the vertical 12:00 orientation. Connect the clutch hydraulic hose, and reinstall the coolant surge tank, then connect the clutch fluid reservoir to the fender reinforcement and tighten the reservoir bolt to 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Set the Clutch Master Cylinder push rod to the side of the pedal pin and force the push rod onto the pedal pin. Reconnect the electrical connector of the clutch pedal position switch, reinstall the driver side instrument panel insulator, bleed of the clutch hydraulic system.
