To change the rear
Axle Shaft seal or bearing, first raise the vehicle. Remove the Axle Shaft. In case only the Axle Shaft seal is to be replaced, remove the seal by using a usable seal withdrawal tool. For the 8.6 inch axle, install the rear axle seal and bearing remover (J 44685) on the slide hammer (J 2619-01) into the axle housing behind axle bearing pulling rearward on slide hammer (J 2619-01) to pull off the Axle Shaft seal and bearing. For the 9.75 inch axle, apply wheel bearing remover (J 29712) on the axle housing behind axle bearing while taking off Axle Shaft seal and bearing by using a tightening nut on the wheel bearing remover (J 29712). For installation, use the bearing installer (J 23690) for 8.6" axle or the rear axle bearing/seal installer (J 45853) and the universal driver handle (J 8092) for the 9.75" axle to install the Axle Shaft bearing into the axle housing until the tool bottoms against the tube. For 8.6 inch axle, in the axle for pinion oil seal, that you need the axle pinion oil seal installer (J 21128) to ensure that it is properly seated in the axle tube. For the 9.75 inch axle, use rear axle bearing/seal installer (J 45853), which will also come in handy with universal driver handle (J 8092) to install the Axle Shaft seal that needs to be fully seated into the axle tube. Lastly, mount the Axle Shaft, spread lubricant in the rear axle before lowering the vehicle.
