GMC Jimmy Hood Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Hood Cable for the Primary Latch Release on GMC Jimmy?
    A:
To replace the hood primary latch release cable, start by opening and sustaining the hood and remove the negative Battery Cable. Pull off the windshield wiper Washer Reservoir and the screws that hold the underhood fuse block for pulling the unit away from the fender and followed by pulling off the Cruise Control Module. Remove the Hood Latch to avoid locking before the new cable is installed blocking the Hood Latch lock. Remove the Hood Cable from the primary latch assembly with a flat-bladed tool to remove the clip and lift the cable assembly of the primary latch. To help in installing, tie a mechanic's wire on the other end of the new cable. Take off clips holding hood release rope with the help of flat-bladed tool, pull the rope back through the gap between the radiator support and the left fender, and behind the antilock brake module. Take out the body hinge trim panel, park brake pedal assembly, hood release cable grommet, and adhesive tape that fastens it to the side of the cowl. Unplug the hood release cable and the lever bolts from the nearest side of the cowl side panel, remove the Hood Cable assembly from the vehicle by directing the cable through the cowl panel below the instrument panel from inside the vehicle. For the installation, run the mechanic's wire to the new cable and route it through the cowl panel, left fender behind the antilock brake module, underhood fuse block, and windshield wiper/washer reservoir around the end of the radiator support. Mount the Hood Cable and the lever bolts onto the cowl side panel by fastening it to 9 n.m (80 lb in), then secure the release cable onto the side of the cowl by attaching it using adhesive tapes and also fitting it on retaining clips. Apply the hood release cable grommet, hood latch cable the latch, park brake pedal assembly and body hinge pillar trim panel. Reinstall the Cruise Control Module, the ones that hold the underhood fuse block, and the windshield wiper/washer reservoir. Lastly, hook up the negative cable, verify the proper operation of the Hood Cable, and shut the hood.
