Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Wheel Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the wheel seal on Chevrolet Silverado 2500?
    A:
Start Wheel Seal service by putting the vehicle on stands and elevating it. Take out the tire and wheel first before removing the rotor. Separate the Wheel Speed Sensor from the Steering Knuckle through bolt removal before taking off the wheel drive shat nut cover. Using a brand new wheel drive shaft nut is necessary during installation. Take off the wheel drive shaft retaining nut along with washer then separate wheel drive shaft from Wheel Hub and bearing via the axle remover (J 45859). First remove the 15-series bearing mounting bolts before taking out Wheel Hub and bearing mounting bolts of 25/35 series. Disassemble and extract the Wheel Hub and bearing parts along with the splash shield from the vehicle. Also remove the o-ring seal from the Steering Knuckle bore of both 25/35 series. Check all properties of o-ring seal 25/35 series and replace it when you find nicks, cracks, dryness, brittleness, or loss of flexibility. Before installation you need to remove all rust and dirt from the Steering Knuckle bore and hub and bearing parts. Put wheel bearing grease or something similar into the Steering Knuckle bore. Put the o-ring into the Steering Knuckle, 25/35 model. Later, fasten the Wheel Speed Sensor mounting bolt to the Wheel Hub and bearing with 18 nm torque (13 ft. Lbs.). Position first the Wheel Hub and bearing with splash shield onto both 25/35 series vehicles then onto 15 series vehicles. Security lasts longer when you fasten 15 series and 25/35 series Wheel Hub and bearing bolts at 180 nm (133 ft. Lbs.). Attach and tighten the wheel drive shaft components including the nut and washer on the Wheel Hub and bearing before installing the Wheel Speed Sensor and brake hose mounting bracket bolt to the Steering Knuckle and tightening the brake hose clip bolt to 12 nm. Finish set-up by putting the rotor on first then the tire and wheel before placing the vehicle in its normal position.
  • Q: How to replace the inner rear axle wheel seal on Chevrolet Silverado 2500?
    A:
The replacement process for inner rear Axle Shaft seal involves first performing vehicle lift followed by removal of tire along with wheel assembly and Differential assembly and axle shafts. The smallest expanding driver should be installed with the small driving washer on the expander assembly to ensure their separation lines match up. The expander assembly requires attachment to the driver bar extension followed by attachment to the driver bar. Position the camshaft bearing service set (J 33049) through the Axle Shaft seal which allows you to tighten the expander assembly nut while turning the driving bar clockwise until the expanding driver touches the seal before striking the Axle Shaft seal out with j 33049 and a hammer. You can start by inserting the drive bar extension onto the drive bar of j 33049 followed by placing it into the opposite Axle Shaft tube where you have to set up the Differential seal installer - inner (J 45177). Start by placing the Axle Shaft seal inside the axle tube before inserting the j 45177 followed by the j 33049 onto the seal and pushing it into the tube using the j 45177, j 33049 and a hammer. Follow the process of reinstalling the Differential assembly along with axle shafts along with tire and wheel assembly while lowering the vehicle to its required position.
