You need the u joint bearing separator (J 9522-3) and u joint bearing spacer remover (J 9522-5) tools to swap the Universal Joint with a nylon injected ring. Place the propeller shaft on a level pressing surface and keep the tubing away from clamps to safeguard from harm. Locate marks on the propeller shaft to establish its transmission and rear axle ends. Fasten the lower ear of the yoke onto a 1 1/8 inch (30mm) socket. Press the u joint bearing separator (J 9522-3) to cut the plastic retainer on the bearing cup before pressing the lower bearing cup out of the yoke ear. After reaching the necessary depth with the full tool, you must take out the cross and fit the u joint bearing spacer remover between the seal and the bearing cup. Then continue pushing the tool. Use the rotating propeller shaft to drive the opposite bearing cup out of the Slip Yoke. Take note of its position to replicate installation during reassembly. Thoroughly examine the grooves of retaining rings and bores of bearing cups after removing cross and leftover Universal Joint parts. Rub off sheared plastic items from the grooves before seating new bearing cups into position. Place a single bearing cup into one side of the yoke and bend the ear downwards. Attach the cross easily as the trunnion fits into its center. Insert each yoke bearing cup until it rests flat against the surface while making sure trunnions fit precisely in place. Continue pressing until the bearing retainer groove becomes free of the yoke and check if the needle bearings need attention. Put together the bearing retainer and push until each retainer snaps into position. Use a dead blow hammer to settle the retainer if necessary and coat the snap ring with chassis grease as needed during installation.
