How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on Chevrolet Camaro?

The replacement process for parking brake shoes includes vehicle support by lifting it and subsequent tire and wheel assembly removal. You must remove the rear brake rotor before retraction of the park Brake Shoe adjuster will allow removal. After removing the upper park Brake Shoe retainer spring you should remove the park Brake Shoe adjuster. First compress and turn the rear Brake Shoe hold down spring for removal before taking out the lower park Brake Shoe retainer spring along with the rear Brake Shoe. The process to removes the front park Brake Shoe begin with compressing and rotating the front park Brake Shoe hold down spring before finally removing the front park Brake Shoe itself. Apply alcohol-based cleaner to the rear Brake Backing Plate until it reaches a dry state. High temperature brake lubricant installation requires coating the park Brake Shoe contact regions of Brake Backing Plate lightly before inserting the front park Brake Shoe into the park brake actuator properly. Install the front park Brake Shoe hold down spring by compressing it before rotating it and install the rear park Brake Shoe followed by the lower park Brake Shoe retainer spring into the park brake actuator properly. First use spring tool and rotation to install the rear park Brake Shoe hold down spring piece by piece before adding the park Brake Shoe adjuster component and the upper park Brake Shoe retainer spring to finish the operation. Finally, adjust the park brake.

How to replace the Parking Brake Shoe on Chevrolet S10?

The first step to replace parking brake shoes includes releasing the park brake if engaged then raising the vehicle before wheel and tire removal. The removal process begins with detaching the park brake cable off the park brake lever without disconnecting the brake caliper and mounting bracket. Secure these components next to each other after moving them away from the original placement. Move on to removing the combination of rear brake caliper and bracket assembly after which you can eliminate the rear brake rotor. You should use denatured alcohol to clean the park brake shoe assembly before drying it with non-lubricated filtered compressed air. The disengagement of the park brake shoe from the hold down spring is achieved by sliding it downward followed by lifting it away from the backing plate before the actuation mechanism can be accessed. Pull both sections of the shoe first from the axle flange then from the vehicle. Start with the adjustment screw in the fully home position of the notched adjustment nut before counter-turning it by 1/4 turn with the slots in both components parallel to the backing plate surface. Use non-lubricated filtered air to clean and dry both alcohol-treated dirt from the rear backing plate surface. A new park brake shoe should be positioned on the axle flange before installation on the actuation mechanism. Position the lower end of the shoe away from the backing plate before letting it drop onto the hold down spring and resting it against the plate. The shoe must be moved upward and underneath the hold down spring while being positioned in the center of the backing plate and both tips settled into the slots of the actuation mechanism . The shoe assembly positioning should be checked while a manual operation checks if the park brake functions correctly through movement of the park brake actuator lever. Return the park brake cable to its place on the park brake lever after checking the brake shoe position then put back the rear brake rotor and brake caliper bracket together with the wheel and tire before lowering the vehicle.
