Chevrolet Cobalt Fuel Pressure Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace a Fuel Pressure Sensor on a Fuel Injection Fuel Rail on Chevrolet Cobalt?
    A:
The replacement of the fuel injection Fuel Rail Fuel Pressure Sensor requires the application of an appropriate method for relieving high side fuel system pressure. Separate the fuel injector wiring harness electrical connector from the Fuel Pressure Sensor while paying attention to keep the foam insulator in its original position to protect it from damage. The sensor can be accessed from the foam insulator aperture by using a 27 mm socket to apply force only to the hexagon part of the sensor to prevent damage. After placing a shop towel beneath the sensor place, use proper methods to extract the old sensor while allowing the residual fuel to drain. Discard the old sensor after removal. Clean the sealing cone after drying it from the Fuel Rail before checking if the rail remains free of contaminants. Before sensor installation the threads of the Fuel Rail sealing cone must receive silicon-free engine oil gm p/n 12345610 (Canadian P/N 993193) or equivalent along with the threads of the new sensor. After installing the sensor by hand tightening adjust the position of the sensor then apply lubrication to it before reinstallation with 33 nm (25 lb ft) torque. Secure the low side fuel pressure service port cap and fuel fill cap next to installing a new high-pressure fuel line then reconnecting the fuel injector wiring harness. Locate a paper towel between the sensor and generator then start the engine and allow it to idle for 5 minutes before shutting off and examining the towel for moisture indications. If wetting occurs, perform the procedure once again.
