This task must be completed with torque/angle meter (J 36660-A) while rotating the Crankshaft Gear bolt to 45 degrees on the first pass and 15 degrees for the last pass. The installation procedure requires a new Timing Belt unit with the crankshaft balancer along with its bolts which must be tightened at 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.). As the last step replace the Timing Belt cover while reinstalling the intake plenum along with the intake air resonator and reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.

  Firstly, remove the transmission to service and repair the Crankshaft main bearing seal. Counterhold the Crankshaft using a crank hub torx socket (J 42098) and unbolt the Flywheel, and take off the Flywheel from the Crankshaft. Now punch the rear main oil seal steel ring through the center at the side that is free from irregularities such as engine parts. It is necessary to drill a small, shallow pilot hole in the steel ring, then screw in a self-tapping screw and pull the rear main oil seal out using pliers. Clean all the sealing surfaces prior to applying the lip of the new rear main oil seal with a light amount of chassis grease, gm p/n 12377985 or equivalent. Use the rear main oil sealer installer (J42067) to install in the new seal while cleaning the rear Crankshaft flange. Mount the Flywheel at the Crankshaft using new Flywheel bolts coated with thread retaining compound, gm p/n 12345493, or the equal of it. Install the Flywheel bolts as the Crankshaft is counter held with crank hub torx socket (J 42098), and apply 65 nm (48 ft. Lbs.) on the first pass, 30 degrees on the second pass, and 15 degrees on the third pass on the torque when tightening the bolts using the torque/angle meter (J 36660-A). Finally, install the transmission.
