Buick Rendezvous A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install the A/C Accumulator (ACDelco P/N 15-1697) on Buick Rendezvous?
    A:
The first step for installing the A/C accumulator which has ACDelco P/N 15-1697 begins with recovering refrigerant from the A/C system. Start by supporting the vehicle height then proceed to remove all bolts that secure the air baffle and detach the air baffle itself. The procedure starts with removing the bolt that holds the evaporator inlet tube onto the condenser before disconnecting the tube from the condenser. Cut the evaporator inlet tube with a tubing cutter at the 110 mm (4.3 in) measurement point from the condenser block fitting end but do not let metal shavings enter the tube. Cut the evaporator tube after measuring 60 mm from the vehicle and remove all burrs from the fresh edges. Seating ferrules requires a previous removal of the O-rings from the A/C accumulator on the evaporator inlet tube. The evaporator tube installation requires attaching one filtered and one ferrule to the tube using the flare nut while keeping the ferrule's tapered end toward the flare nut and placing the A/C accumulator onto the evaporator inlet tube with its arrow direction pointing toward the evaporator before tightening the flare nut to 15N.m torque. Use the same method to install filters on the remaining half of the evaporator inlet tube until the filters reach their complete seating position. Detach the A/C accumulator by loosening its flare nuts after which you should lubricate and secure O-rings to each end of the evaporator tube. Seating the A/C accumulator inside the housing ends requires the arrow to face the evaporator then tightening the flare nuts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Leave the evaporator inlet tube joined to the condenser then install its securing bolt before securing it at 16 N.m (12 lb ft). Install the air baffle along with its bolts before tightening them to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). Before moving on with service you need to lower the vehicle while conducting evacuations and A/C system recharges followed by fitting leakage assessment using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in an A/C system on Buick Rendezvous?
    A:
The initial step for A/C accumulator replacement includes recovery of refrigerant from the air conditioning system. Starting with condenser removal and proceeding to disconnect both the upper bracket bolt and lower mounting bolts of the A/C accumulator. You should discard the shooting washers after you remove the A/C accumulator. Users should add PAG oil in its specified amount to the new A/C accumulator when installing the device. New sealing washers should be installed before connecting the A/C accumulator to the condenser using the lower mounting bolts while tightening them to 6 N.m (53 lb in). Install the upper bracket bolt before tightening it to 6 N.m (53 lb in). Reinstall the condenser while evacuating the A/C system next followed by charging it. Complete the procedure with a Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) for checking system fittings.
