Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor replacement begins by draining engine coolant until the sensor remains below the drainage level. Start your replacement process by taking out the fuel injector sight shield followed by the ECT sensor harness connector removal before you remove the ECT sensor. When reusing the sensor tap out the hole in the engine head to remove thread sealant residue before cleaning the old sensor. Thread sealant GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) or equivalent should be applied to the sensor threads before you install the ECT sensor which should be tightened to 23 Nm (17 lb ft). Hook up the ECT sensor harness connector until you feel the click and verify that it positions itself in a secure engagement. After installation of the fuel injector sight shield replace the engine cooling system with the correct liquid levels.
