The outer joint functions as a singular piece requiring replacement to prevent performance issues or injuries. The seal should be taken off the joint assembly during this step. To install the seal position it on the Axle Shaft then use j 8059 to spread the snap ring while filling the joint seal with 110-130 g (3.9-4.6 ounces) of recommended grease before repacking the joint with the same amount. Installing new large and small seal retaining clamps with the j 35566 tool allows for crimping before putting the drive Axle Shaft back into the vehicle.
