  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle in the rear suspension on 2007 Cadillac CTS?
    A: In order to replace the Steering Knuckle on the rear suspension, do the following step: first of all, lift and support the car. Expel the tire and wheel as well as the rear brake rotor. Next, detach the wheel driveshaft nut and throw it away, then the ABS Sensor electrical connector and the connection it has with backing plate. Unscrew and remove the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts and the bracket from the knuckle. Remove the upper Ball Joint mounting nut and remove the ball stud from the knuckle using the Ball Joint remover (J 43631). Lift the low Control Arm with an appropriate jack; pull the lower shock mounting bolt; remove the lower Control Arm to knuckle mounting bolt; unbolt and unbolt the Trailing Arm to knuckle mounting bolt and nut; unbolt adjustment link to knuckle mounting bolt. Mount the Wheel Hub remover (J 42129) to the wheel bearing/hub, and use it to pull off the wheel drive shaft from the wheel bearing/hub. Disassemble the knuckle from the vehicle, and then the hub's wheel/ bearing bolts, and after that, remove the knuckle and backing plate from the wheel bearing/hub. For installation, mount the knuckle and backing plate on the wheel bearing/hub and tighten the mount bolts of the wheel bearing/hub to 125 n.m (92 lb ft). Do this on half strength and then install the adjustment link to knuckle mounting bolt, the Trailing Arm to knuckle mounting bolt and nut, the lower shock mounting bolt, and the lower Control Arm to knuckle mounting bolt. Securing the upper Ball Joint mount shaft to the knuckle along with the upper Ball Joint mounting nut which is to tightened 20 n.m (15 lb ft) additional 210- degrees turn. Tighten the lower Control Arm to knuckle bolt to 175 n.m (129 lb ft), lower shock mounting bolt to 150 n.m (111 lb ft), trailing arm to knuckle bolt and nut to 175 n.m (129 lb ft), adjustment link to knuckle bolt to 175 n.m (129 lb ft) and parking brake cable bracket bolts to 60 n.m (44 lb ft). Pull the jack back out, reconnect the ABS Sensor electric connector to the backing plate and main connector, thread on the new wheel drive shaft nut and tighten it with 160 n.m (118 lb ft) of torque. Lastly, replace the brake rotor, the tire, and wheel and let the car down.
