To install a new drum brake backing plate, make the vehicle airborne, strip the tire and wheel assembly, the brake drum and the shoes. Lift off the universal spring and wheel cylinder and then lift off the backing plate. Install the new plate, reconnect items, adjust the brakes, and re-fit tire and then lower the vehicle.
