2004 Cadillac CTS Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster (LHD) on 2004 Cadillac CTS?
A: Start your replacement work by taking the left insulator panel out of the vehicle. Remove the vacuum Brake Booster push rod releasing clip then detach its connecting rod from the Brake Pedal. When a cross vehicle brace exists you should uninstall it. The clutch pipes stay connected to their master cylinder since disconnecting them is optional for this project but you must remove the Clutch Master Cylinder when present. You need to take the master cylinder out of the vacuum Brake Booster but you can keep the brake pipes attached to it during this work. Begin unlock the vacuum Brake Booster tab by taking out the air inlet grille panel. Unplug the surge tank inlet hose, put it to the side and remove the surge tank bolts to set it aside after plugging the hose back to avoid coolant leakage. Position the vacuum Brake Booster check valve to the side to clear the work space. Lock the j 22805-b onto the vacuum Brake Booster shaft through master cylinder nuts after placing the check valve aside. Depress the retaining tab with a flat tool and turn the booster counterclockwise with the j 22805-b ratchet to unlock it from the cowl front. Use gentle force to pull out the vacuum Brake Booster from its cowl mounting position when you support it and push the foam filter through its location to find and unscrew the retention clip. Pull the long end of the retaining clip up and push vacuum booster Pushrod out of position. When installing the booster keep its internal parts in place because they come unrepairable. Check the booster locking flanges together with the plate. Replace them when damaged. Fit the vacuum Brake Booster on the Pushrod so its long retainer clip slot fits into the machined channel. Insert the booster to the dust boot on the cowl and twist it clockwise to lock in position. Rotate the booster clockwise with the j 22805-b ratchet until it stops but refrain from using a flat-blade tool during this process. Place the j 22805-b down, attach the vacuum lines and check valve parts before putting back the surge tank hose. Reinstall the cooling surge container, air header panel, brake cylinder to booster assembly, clutch cylinder if available, structural element when present, and position Brake Booster linkage onto Brake Pedal while anchoring it to retaining clip. Then reinstall the left part shield.
