2003 Cadillac CTS Brake Booster Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster (RHD) on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
A: To service the Brake Booster start by obtaining the Brake Booster holder tool j 22805-b. Remove the left closeout/insulator first before extracting the vacuum Brake Booster Pushrod retaining clip and Pushrod with their anchors attached to the Brake Pedal unit without detaching brake pipes from the master cylinder. Put the master cylinder to one side after taking it off from the vacuum Brake Booster. Reach the booster locking tab under the air inlet grille panel and disconnect the coolant surge tank vacuum line from its tank. Secure the coolant surge tank outside the work area after removing its bolts while keeping its inlet pipe connected. Set up the Brake Booster holder with part number j 22805-b on the vacuum Brake Booster and fix it through the master cylinder retaining nuts. Use a flat-bladed tool to push down the locking tab as you turn the booster counterclockwise with a ratchet on the Brake Booster holder (J 22805-B). Gently take the vacuum Brake Booster off its cowl mounting position while providing it support. Insert the foam filter from the front of the booster to reach the retaining clip. Lift the clip's long leg to extract the Pushrod. Set up installation only when all internal parts are present and locking plates show no damage. Feed the Pushrod inside the vacuum Brake Booster while placing its long retainer clip leg into the machine-made groove. Insert the booster in a counterclockwise direction towards positioning and tighten it clockwise while using a ratchet on the Brake Booster holder until the locking tab connects. Take off Brake Booster holder j 22805-b then affix the new vacuum tube and check valve system while placing back the coolant surge tank. Conclude by placing the air inlet grille panel and adding all remaining parts including the master cylinder, Pushrod, retaining clip, and left insulator panel.
