- Q: How to service and repair the throttle cable/linkage on 2001 Chevrolet Prizm?A: The first procedure requires removing the cruise control actuator cover through gentle pressure applied to both sides at the base. You should loosen the cable adjusting lock nuts because they need to remove the accelerator pedal cable from its bracket. Work with the actuator lever after disconnecting its accelerator cable connection while you manually rotate the lever for simpler removal. The servicing process involves removing first the accelerator pedal cable from its cable guide clip and subsequently disconnecting the accelerator cable from the pedal. Remove two bolts and allow the accelerator cable along with its bracket to pass through the bulkhead before removing the cable from the vehicle. The installation begins with reconnecting the bulkhead-mounted accelerator pedal cable and bracket followed by fastening them with 2 bolts which must be tightened to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Use the accelerator pedal cable to attach the actuator lever while manually rotating the lever so the connection becomes possible. The accelerator pedal cable should be connected both to the cable guide clip then installed into its bracket placement. Adjust both cable adjusting locknuts until the accelerator pedal cable can move slightly with the actuator lever before tightening the locknuts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
