- Q: How to Service and Repair a Throttle Cable on 2000 Chevrolet Prizm?A: Service and repair of the throttle cable/linkage requires users to start by removing the cruise control actuator cover through gentle outward pressure at its base. A technician should loosen the adjusting lock nuts to allow removal of the accelerator pedal cable from the bracket. Take off the accelerator pedal cable from the actuator lever; gently turning the actuator lever by hand will help the removal process. First detach the accelerator pedal cable from the cable guide clip and it should then be disconnected from the accelerator pedal. Complete the removal process by first disconnecting the bracket and the accelerator cable and its two bolts at the bulkhead before taking out the accelerator cable from the vehicle. Begin the installation process by mounting the accelerator pedal cable along with its bracket to the bulkhead and tightening the 2 bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). After connecting the accelerator pedal cable to the accelerator pedal you should proceed by attaching the accelerator pedal cable to the actuator lever with hand rotation helping you achieve the connection. The accelerator pedal cable should be connected with the cable guide clip after which it should enter the installed bracket. Use the cable adjusting locknuts to achieve minimal movement between the accelerator pedal cable and actuator lever before tightening them to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
