How should you inspect the capsules on the steering column bracket assembly after a collision on GMC Acadia?

After an accident check that the steering column bracket assembly capsules fit into their bracket positions firmly while performing a visual inspection test by manually pressing or pulling the capsules. Replacement of the bracket (part number) should be done if it uses bolts to connect with the jacket assembly; however if welding joins the components use the jacket assembly (part number) for substitution. The ensure integrity check requires measuring a specific interval between the lower edge of the upper jacket and the defined point on the lower jacket. The measurement of A should be between 100 mm specifications to require installation of the specified steering column component.

What should be inspected and measured to determine if a steering column is damaged or misaligned after an accident on GMC Sierra 1500?

The occurrence of major structural frame damage alongside major body or sheet metal damage or Steering Column impact or inflation of supplemental inflatable restraint systems could lead to Steering Column problems in the affected vehicle. The inspection of both Steering Column bracket capsules should verify complete bracket slot seating and evaluate loose conditions by manual force tests. Replace any loose capsule items by changing the bracket when bolted to the jacket assembly but use a new jacket assembly when welding is present. The measurement from the support bracket mounting plate to the lower edge of jacket lower bracket should be taken to evaluate jacket collapse. Replace the jacket assembly if the measurement reveals less than 286 mm. Free the Steering Column sir coil before conducting the shaft rotation. The presence of sheared plastic on the Steering Shaft requires a new Steering Shaft for replacement. The measurement using a dial indicator on the Steering Shaft base indicates that no damage from frame problems should exceed 1.60 mm (0.0625 in) runout when rotating the steering wheel.
