The process to replace the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring requires vehicle elevation before removing the service slot plug. Position the en 46547 into the Flywheel teeth before lowering the vehicle. Separate the valve rocker arms from the vehicle then remove the spark plugs. After applying the j 44228 (J 44228) base plate to the Spark Plug hole position of the serviced cylinder, insert the j 39313 (J 39313) into the Spark Plug hole while maintaining constant air pressure to keep the valve closed. Fasten the j 44228 arm with its swivel nut onto the appropriate valve stud ensuring all valve springs are handled with due caution. Once the swivel nut reaches adequate tightness for valve lock access you can extract the locks with a magnetic tool. Swinging the arm with loose swivel nut removes both the valve spring retainer and the valve spring. The j 38320 (J 38320) tool helps users retrieve and measure the valve spring and remove the old valve stem seal while twisting and pulling. The new valve stem requires a clean application of engine oil both on the valve stem surface and inside of the installation area. After lubrication place a seal protector over the valve stem before using the j 38320 tool to apply the new seal. Set the valve spring retainer and spring aside before swinging the j 44228 arm over the retainer to just tighten the swivel nut enough to insert the valve locks. Use the j 43059 (J 43059) to position valve locks on the valve and then remove the j 44228's swivel nut and arm. Rinse the j 39313 against the Spark Plug hole while relieving the air pressure until all the valves in the cylinder have been serviced to completion. After you remove the base plate of j 44228, set the spark plugs and valve rocker arms correctly before repeating the previous steps to lower the vehicle and install the service slot plug before supporting the vehicle again.

How to Install a Rocker Shaft Spring Kit on a GMC Sierra 1500?

You need to take off the Rocker Arm before replacing both valve parts. Loosen each Spark Plug wire boot by turning it halfway while pulling on the boot alone. Loosen spark plugs from the Cylinder Head when engine is at room temperature before cleaning dirt with air or brush. Turn spark plugs one or two turns to detach them before brushing or air blasting them free. Set the j 22794 into the Spark Plug hole and secure an Air Hose while using compressed air to hold the valves stationary. Use tool (J 38606) to tension valve springs before taking out valve stem keys (225) and letting spring tension off slowly. Degas the engine by first taking out the valve spring compressor (J 38606), valve spring cap (224), valve spring (223), valve stem oil seal (222), and valve (228). Brush oils through the valve spring seat region of the Cylinder Head before applying clean engine oil on both the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal. Put the valves (228) into the right port before setting the Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), valve spring (223), and valve spring cap (224). Use the (J 38606) tool to compress the valve spring before inserting the keys into their grooves on the valve stem and keeping them in place with grease. Lift valve spring pressure while monitoring key position. Then take out the tool and tap the valve stem tip with a soft-headed hammer to better place keys if needed. Apply the (J 22794) into the Spark Plug port and turn the key by hand until the plug fires. Then tighten the plug to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Push the spark plugs directly into their connections at the Ignition Coil and Spark Plug. Check wire installation by pressing each boot from side to side then replace any loose boots. Finally, install the Rocker Arm.

Put the valves (228) into the right port before setting the Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), valve spring (223), and valve spring cap (224). Use the (J 38606) tool to compress the valve spring before inserting the keys into their grooves on the valve stem and keeping them in place with grease. Lift valve spring pressure while monitoring key position. Then take out the tool and tap the valve stem tip with a soft-headed hammer to better place keys if needed. Apply the (J 22794) into the Spark Plug port and turn the key by hand until the plug fires. Then tighten the plug to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Push the spark plugs directly into their connections at the Ignition Coil and Spark Plug. Check wire installation by pressing each boot from side to side then replace any loose boots. Finally, install the Rocker Arm.
