To replace the
Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring, collect the following tools: j 38820 (Valve Stem Seal Remover and Installer) j 44222 (
Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool), j -4228-a (Valve Spring Compressor), and j 44226 (Crankshaft Balancer Remover). Start by collecting the valve train parts while taking them apart, with a view of reassembling them properly. Regulate the air pressure to 50 psi; then pressurize the cylinder to stop the crankshaft from turning. Lift the vehicle, and then remove the Torque Converter access plug. Use the j 44226 on a Torque Converter bolt t stop the crank shaft from turning and then lower the vehicle. Mount the j 44222 onto the cylinder head to prevent interference with the timing chain components and set the horizontal bolts in the Camshaft sprockets for chain tension. Carefully remove the Camshaft's sprockets with the timing chain off the camshafts, after that remove the Camshaft cap bolts and put the Camshaft caps in a rack where they are safe and ready to be installed. It will be necessary for you to pull the caps from camshafs and the camshafs themselves as well as apply the air pressure into the cylinder by means of a suitable adapter. Mount the j -4228-a to compress the valve springs, and unmount the valve keys, follow by the, j -4228-a, removed the valve spring retainer and valve spring, and then use the j 38820 to remove the seals, during the process. Clean and check cylinder head before lubricating valve stems with clean engine oil before fixing. Install the valve seals using the j 38820 followed by the valve spring and valve spring retainer. Further compress the valve spring using the j -4228-a, install the valve keys and take off the j -4228-a, release the air pressure into the cylinder, apply clean engine oil on the Camshaft journals and lobes, and put them back into the position they were initially in. Install the Camshaft caps and tighten them to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.) then carefully replace the Camshaft sprockets and remove the j 44222. Install the intake Camshaft sprocket washer and bolt, together with the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt, pushing the intake bolt to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) using the j 36660-a for the final 100-degree pass. Torque up the exhaust bolt to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) and apply the j 36660-a for an additional 135 degrees for a final turn. Lastly, install the
Spark Plugs, Camshaft cover, lift up and support the vehicle again, install the j 44226 on the Torque Converter bolt, install the Torque Converter access plug, and lower the vehicle.
