How to replace the fan clutch on GMC Sierra 1500?

The first step for Fan Clutch replacement requires upper Fan Shroud removal. The j46406 Fan Clutch remover and installer should be applied to the Fan Clutch following which users need to loosen the fan hub nut on the Water Pump by turning it to the counterclockwise direction. Start by removing the Fan Clutch bolts which secure the Fan Blade from its rear side and then proceed to separate the Fan Clutch unit from the Fan Blade. To install the Fan Clutch bolts start with the rear position of the Fan Blade and tighten bolt nuts to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the fan assembly then apply the Fan Clutch remover and installer (J46406) to tighten the nut by controlling it clockwise to 56 nm (41 ft. Lbs.). You should reinstall the upper Fan Shroud as the final step.

How to Service and Repair a Fan Clutch on GMC Canyon?

The replacement process starts with cooling fan removal before proceeding to unbolt the Fan Blade from the Fan Clutch while detaching them. First remove the cooling fan. Then install the Fan Blade to the Fan Clutch while mounting the 4 bolts with 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) of torque and following the fastener notice in service precautions. Finally, install the cooling fan.
