Alternator is an important element of GMC Envoy that charges the automobile battery and powers all the electrical unit when the vehicle is on the road. Usually mounted at the front end of a car just behind the engine, an alternator is used to transform mechanical energy to electric energy and this electric energy that is produced is sent to different parts of the vehicle such as the battery. With this construction, the alternator uses a rotating magnetic field with a stationary armature to produce the required AC for recharging the battery and serving the car's electrical needs. Depending on the voltage regulation capability to avoid undercharging and overcharging circumstances, the alternator aids in supporting the car's electrical systems. For cases requiring high amperage charging capability the alternators are designed to meet higher electrical demands without straining the charging system of the vehicle.

GMC Envoy Alternator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and install an alternator on GMC Envoy?
    A:
Start by disconnecting the battery negative cable followed by removing the Drive Belt before generator removal. First disconnect the battery positive cable nut from the generator then disconnect the a/c line mounting bracket bolt from the engine lift hook. The next procedure involves taking out the lift hook after removing its right engine hook bolts. The generator removal starts when you remove its 3 mounting bolts to extract the unit from the system. When installing the generator replace it with 3 bolts while torquing them to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). To secure the battery positive cable on the generator, use the nut as directed and tighten to 9 n.m (80 lb in). The engine lift hook requires two bolts for installation which should reach torque of 50 n.m (37 lb ft) when tightened. After attaching the a/c line bracket to the lift hook it should be secured with the bolt while tightening it to 10 n.m (89 lb in). After installation of the Drive Belt complete the procedure by reconnecting the battery negative cable.
  • Q: How to replace the alternator on GMC Envoy?
    A:
Begin the generator replacement by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable and removing the Drive Belt. Start by removing the battery positive cable nut from the generator followed by taking off the a/c line mounting bracket bolt attached to the engine lift hook. The next step involves removing the lift hook's right bolts followed by the removal of the lift hook itself. Remove the 3 generator mounting bolts first before extracting the generator. During installation replace the generator before tightening the 3 bolts at 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Seal and tighten the generator's positive Battery Cable using the nut to a torque of 9 n.m (80 lb in). Mount the engine lift hook back and lock it into place with two bolts tightened to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Use 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque to fasten the a/c line bracket bolt onto the lift hook. You need to reattach both the Drive Belt and the battery negative cable.
