How to replace the idler arm on Chevrolet Avalanche 1500?

The Idler Arm replacement requires universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B) tool as well as steering linkage installer (12 mm) (J 29193) and steering linkage installer (14 mm) (J 29194). Start by using a vehicle lift to expose the engine protection shield if it is present. Start by taking out the Idler Arm ball stud nut while keeping it for disposal and then remove the Idler Arm from the relay rod through the use of universal steering linkage puller (J 24319-B). First remove the frame bolts and nuts from both ends of the Idler Arm before pulling it out of the vehicle. Fasten the new Idler Arm on the frame then tighten the frame bolts and nuts to 99 n.m (73 lb ft). After placing the Idler Arm ball stud seal onto the ball stud the relay rod can be installed while using the steering linkage installer (12 mm) (J 29193) or steering linkage installer (14 mm) (J 29194) to torque the tapers to 54 n.m (40 lb ft). The prevailing torque nut for the Idler Arm ball stud needs to be installed with a torque of 62 n.m (46 lb ft). The wheel alignment needs to be checked after the vehicle is lowered and the engine protection shield has been reinstalled if equipped.
