Cadillac Escalade EXT Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the steering knuckle with coil spring suspension on Cadillac Escalade EXT?
    A:
Instead of Steering Knuckle a coil spring suspension, first lift and support the vehicle, tire and wheel will be removed. Take care and examine each part before returning the items because they will be expensive to replace if something goes wrong. Should you need to further extend the Control Arm, you will need a wheel alignment after it has been returned. In the case of having it, remove the electronic suspension control link rod from the sensor and remove the outer link rod from the knuckle. Remove the brake hose bracket retaining bolt from the knuckle, then remove the retaining nut and separate the upper and lower Ball Joints from the Steering Knuckle using the j 43631 Ball Joint remover and j 45851 Ball Joint separator protector adapters. After the removal of the Steering Knuckle, clean the tapered area and thread of the upper and lower Ball Joint and Tie Rod End, and examine the taper hole and mounting surfaces of the Steering Knuckle; replace the Steering Knuckle if there are elongated tapered holes, out of round, or damages. Mount the Steering Knuckle, attach the lower joint with ball to it and put in retaining nut and tighten it up to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Replace the Steering Knuckle to the upper Ball Joint then screw the retaining nut and tighten it to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Install the brake hose bracket retaining bolt to the knuckle, tying it down to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.), then install the outer tie rod to the Steering Knuckle and Wheel Hub and bearing. Connect the esc link rod to the sensor if it is installed; attach the tire and wheel, while taking safety stands away; and lower the vehicle.
