Start by disabling the SIR system before proceeding with Inflatable Restraint Front End Sensor replacement work. Before powering the system you must ensure proper sensor attachment and disable SIR activation through careful handling to protect both the sensor and people nearby. Remove the front air deflector first before unclipping the connector position assurance from the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor wiring harness connector and separating the wiring harness connector from the sensor. Next access the lower tie bar hole receiving the left-hand threaded inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor mounting fastener. To remove the sensor gently move it upward across the key hole slot until it exits completely from the rear of the hole slot.
