2009 GMC Acadia Cam Gear Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Cam Gear in the Camshaft Position Actuator on Bank 1 Exhaust on 2009 GMC Acadia?
A: You need to uninstall both the Intake Manifold and the right camshaft cover before starting the bank 1 camshaft position actuator replacement. First remove both right camshaft position sensors before eliminating their related solenoids. Turn the crankshaft balancer bolt rightward to put the camshafts at their standard position while you mark the camshaft Timing Chain components for correct installation. Make accurate alignment marks on both the exhaust and intake camshaft position actuators at their timing link and camshaft position teeth. Fit the camshafts toward each other at first to place slack in the chain. Next, insert the en-48313 Timing Chain retention tool between the camshaft actuators until its top line touches the cylinder head. Lower the en-48313 tool legs once they touch the Timing Chain. Make sure the foot rests firmly in a link pocket to secure the chain. At first tighten the en-48313 manually before locking the t-handle with an open-end wrench. Twist the camshafts to get slack then block engine movement with a wrench to make the camshaft actuator bolt easier to remove. Securely remove the right exhaust camshaft position actuator through its bolt but leave room at the reluctor wheel opening. Install the camshaft position actuator with ex marking following the proper alignment between the actuator timing marks and Timing Chain. Thread the actuator bolt by hand and remove the en-48313 part before tightening the actuator bolt to 58 nm (43 lb ft). After installing the right intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors, position solenoids and camshaft cover you should place the Intake Manifold back in position.
