• Q: How to replace the upper intake manifold on 2009 Chevrolet Equinox?

  A: The first step to replace the upper Intake Manifold is removing the fuel injector sight shield before unclamping the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose connection and disconnecting the hose from the Intake Manifold. Detach the left Spark Plug Wires from their retainers and spark plugs before you can remove the bracket for the ignition control module which contains the wires and module attached while you position it out of your way. Begin by removing the air cleaner intake duct followed by extracting the heater outlet pipe nut from the upper Intake Manifold and the heater outlet pipe nuts and bolt from the Throttle Body while leaving the hoses intact. Position the pipe aside. Disassemble both the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe together with the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) foul air hose. Lay your fingers on the generator attachment bolt situated near the Intake Manifold to loosen it. Then remove the generator brace nut and brace. Disassemble the system by removing the upper Intake Manifold bolts, spark plug wire retainer and upper Intake Manifold gaskets. To replace the upper Intake Manifold all components must be removed starting with the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor followed by EGR Valve then evaporative emissions (EVAP) purge solenoid valve and Throttle Body and finishing with fuel injector sight shield studs. When installing secure fir tree retainers between upper Intake Manifold gaskets and lower Intake Manifold before attaching the upper Intake Manifold and Spark Plug wire retainer. Secure threadlock gm p/n 12345382 on the bolt threads followed by upper Intake Manifold bolt installation before tightening each bolt to 25 nm (18 lb ft). Installation includes adding the fuel injector sight shield studs followed by Throttle Body and evap purge solenoid valve and EGR Valve and MAP Sensor. After installing the generator brace and nut to 25 nm (18 lb ft), driver the remaining generator attachment bolt to 25 nm (18 lb ft) before complete insertion. Install the pcv foul air hose along with the egr pipe while directing the heater outlet pipe toward the Throttle Body and upper Intake Manifold before performing correct torque tightening procedures. For completion install the air cleaner intake duct followed by the ignition control module bracket then join left side Spark Plug Wires before reattaching the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose to finish with the installation of the fuel injector sight shield.
