- Q: How to replace the steering linkage outer tie rod on 2009 Cadillac SRX?A: The replacement process for a steering linkage outer Tie Rod starts by taking out the tire and wheel combination. First loosen the inner Tie Rod nut of the steering linkage before disconnecting the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End nut. A puller tool (J 24319-B) breaks the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End free from the Steering Knuckle after recording the needed number of complete turns for removal. Then take out the rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End from its position on the inner Tie Rod of the steering linkage. The rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End must be installed on the steering linkage inner Tie Rod using the noted number of elimination turns while leaving the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut loose during this phase. The rack and pinion outer Tie Rod End should attach to the Steering Knuckle prior to installing the nut which requires a torque of 70 nm (52 lb ft). Fitting the tire and wheel assembly requires the steering linkage inner Tie Rod nut to be tightened to 65 nm (48 lb ft). Finally, adjust the front toe.
