  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2009 Cadillac SRX?
    A: Before changing the rear brake hose raise and hold the vehicle in position while you disassemble the wheel on the left side. Wipe away all dirt from both the brake hose and brake pipe fittings then put on a rubber seal over the open brake pipe fitting to stop fluid from escaping. Remove the brake hose retainer clip over the end of the brake hose then unfasten the brake hose retainer with a flat blade tool from the brake hose. Seize the brake hose at both ends on the frame part. Loosen the brake hose to caliper bolt at the brake caliper and smoothly extract the brake hose away from the vehicle. Use a shop towel to cover a flat surface and hit the brake hose thread against the bolt to take out its gasket. Also discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets which may not come off from the brake caliper or hose end. Place a rubber stopper inside the brake caliper bolt opening of the brake caliper. To put the system together you must first take out the rubber cap from the brake hose hole at the caliper bolt area. Next add the brake hose to the copper gaskets and brake hose bolt . Attach the brake hose to caliper bolt of the brake caliper unit and fasten at 50 nm torque while verifying brake hose alignment. Secure the brake hose to its frame position while installing the brake hose retainer on top of the brake hose. Connect the brake pipe fitting end of the crossover pipe to the brake hose after removing its rubber cap or plug and tighten them firmly at 18 nm (13 lb ft). Drain all hydraulic brake fluid first and put back the left wheel and tire combination before letting the car down.
