How to replace the rear brake backing plate on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?

In order to replace the rear brake backing plate, lift up the vehicle and take off the tire and wheel assembly. Disassemble the brake drum and shoes, the universal spring and wheel cylinder, and backing plate. Install the new rear support plate, re-assemble parts, reposition the brakes and re-fit the tire.
