- Q: How to Replace a Shock Absorber Module on 2008 Cadillac SRX?A: The first step to replace the shock module requires elevating the vehicle then establishing support under it. First remove the tire together with wheel before uninstalling the shock yoke. The removal procedure for vehicles with esc and automatic headlamp aiming includes detaching the suspension position sensor link rod between the upper Control Arm and Steering Knuckle. Disassembly and reassembly of the ball stud should be performed with hand tools to prevent its rotation. You should position the upper Control Arm next to the Steering Knuckle then remove its retaining nut while inserting a hex-head tool near the ball stud to stop it from moving. You should use the steering linkage and tie rod puller (J 24319-B) to detach the upper Control Arm from the Steering Knuckle following the removal of the upper Control Arm to Steering Knuckle nut. Lower the vehicle before disconnecting the damper coil harness connector when an esc system is present on the vehicle. Drill the shock module upper mounting bolts from the vehicle to free the module. Reattach the shock module into the vehicle while securing the upper mounting bolts at 112 n.m (83 lb ft). Perform the necessary reconnect procedures of the damper coil harness connector followed by vehicle lifting operation. Securely attach the Steering Knuckle-mounting upper Control Arm utilizing a retaining nut which needs tightening at 80 n.m (59 lb ft). The suspension position sensor link rod for vehicles with esc or automatic headlamp aiming needs to be reconnected along with the shock yoke installation before the shock is attached to it. Complete the installation by replacing the tire followed by wheel installation before the vehicle returns to its regular height.
