2008 Cadillac DTS Timing Chain Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2008 Cadillac DTS?
A: The procedure begins with right Timing Chain removal followed by left Timing Chain Tensioner extraction together with left camshaft cover removal. Install the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) to hold the camshafts when both camshaft sprocket drive pins spin at their highest point in rotation. Apply an open-end wrench onto the hex cast on the camshaft to stop rotation before removing the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt. Use a wrench on the j 44212 camshaft holding tool to prevent camshaft rotation while removing the left intake camshaft sprocket from its position on the shaft. Then separate the left Timing Chain from both engine and camshaft sprocket teeth. All camshaft drive components require cleaning as well as comprehensive inspection procedures. When installing the sprockets slide the chain down through the Cylinder Head toward the left exhaust camshaft sprocket until it reaches the inner teeth of the camshaft intermediate drive. Now fit the left intake sprocket against the chain and make sure the intake camshaft pin engages with the li marked notch. Before installing the sprocket on the camshaft confirm that the li mark should face the intake camshaft pin. Tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt to 120 n.m (89 lb ft) through use of the open-end wrench to prevent spin. You must remove j 44212 camshaft holding tool before installing the left camshaft cover and left Timing Chain Tensioner then you can install the right Timing Chain last.
