2007 Cadillac DTS Timing Chain Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the RH secondary camshaft timing chain on 2007 Cadillac DTS?
A: When replacing the right Timing Chain first remove the right Timing Chain tensioner followed by the camshaft position (CMP) sensor and finally the right camshaft cover. Install the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) above the camshafts when both camshaft sprocket drive pins rest at their highest possible position. Start by removing the right Timing Chain shoe support wire followed by engine front cover bolt unpacking. Turn the hex-shaped fastener on the camshaft with an open-end wrench to stop camshaft rotation during right exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt removal. First remove the right exhaust camshaft sprocket off its camshaft position. Afterward, remove the right Timing Chain from both sprocket teeth on the camshaft and intermediate drive shaft until the chain leaves the engine. Clean all camshaft timing drive components while inspecting them before you slide in the new right Timing Chain through the right Cylinder Head to the right intake camshaft sprocket which then needs to follow the outer row of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket teeth. Fit the right exhaust camshaft sprocket to the Timing Chain while making sure the sprocket's re mark engages the exhaust camshaft pin. The right exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt needs to be tightened with an open-end wrench up to 120 n.m (89 lb ft) to prevent rotation. Fitting and tightening the right Timing Chain tensioner marks the last step before removing the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) to reinstall both the right camshaft cover and cmp sensor.
